Social Emotional Learning at Salisbury Academy

Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) has been on the rise over the last few years in schools and, here at Salisbury Academy, has always been a core component to our programming.

SEL curriculum at Salisbury Academy is based on the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning's (CASEL) five key skills:

Self-Awareness

Self-Management

Social Awareness

Relationship Skills

Responsible Decision Making

These five key skills provide students with a solid foundation and enhance their ability to strive and thrive in life. While academic success is a key priority at Salisbury Academy, our development of students involves their entire being, or their progress as a whole child: their social, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth.

Students in grades 1-8 learn how to manage themselves, understand the perspective of others, and learn how to make sound decisions. Director of Admission and SEL Teacher Mrs. Allison Doby meets with grades 1-8 weekly, and JK through 8th grade teachers integrate SEL strategies into the classroom experience to improve the well-being of all students. For more information about SEL, please visit www.casel.org.

Above: Fifth through seventh grade SEL (Social Emotional Learning) students at Salisbury Academy have chosen words of inspiration to guide them on their paths in the school year ahead. Whether by focusing on gratitude, joyfulness, prospective, productivity, or other important topics, students are reflective, inspired, and ready to make the most of the year ahead!
