Athletics

altThe interscholastic athletic program at Salisbury Academy plays an integral role in a student’s education. Our goal is to provide an opportunity to play on an athletic team to every student who wants it --- and we encourage every student to get involved.

Why do we consider this a critical piece of our students’ development? Here are just a few reasons:

  •  Participants learn about commitment and teamwork. Regular practices and games help student-athletes understand that others count on them to attend and try their hardest. They come to realize that, when they are absent or put forth less than full effort, they are affecting their teammates. They also learn that the whole is greater than the sum of its parts --- that, by working together, they can achieve at a high level.

  •  Participants learn about good sportsmanship. While experiencing the ups and downs that any season brings, they learn to win and lose graciously.

  •  Participants have fun and stay healthy. From emotional and physical standpoints, there are many benefits to playing on an athletic team. Students look forward to a time in their day when they can both work and play at something they enjoy. Further, regular and vigorous exercise helps every child grow stronger.

In short, wins and losses are important to our student-athletes, but we place a higher priority on helping our young people obtain strong characters and healthy bodies.
